Welcome to Ravenna

Ravenna, built in 1835-36 for successful entrepreneur William Harris, was one of the first examples of residential Greek Revival designs to appear in Natchez.  The historic home was originally built of native cypress amid fifteen acres of informal gardens.

Ravenna's exterior is distinguished by front and rear double galleries, displaying Doric columns on the first floor and Ionic columns on the second floor.  The ample galleries allow plenty of space for family and guests alike to enjoy cooler evening breezes during balmy Natchez summers.

The interior of Ravenna is beautifully detailed with the elegant curves of an elliptical staircase and entrance hall arch; evidence that builders were hesitant to completely abandon the then well-known Federal style for the purely angular Greek Revival.

The Bed & Breakfast Cottage

Guests of Ravenna stay in our private, comfortable poolside cottage.  The King size bed and other antique pieces are countered with more modern furnishings designed to make you feel at home.  The pool is yours at your discretion (closed during winter months).  Roam the informal gardens, bird-watch or read from the gallery, or take an easy walk to Main Street.  Natchez is rated one of the best places in Mississippi for shopping, restaurants, and historical attractions.

A continental breakfast is brought to you each morning.  Soft drinks and a complimentary bottle of wine stock the refrigerator.  There's a working fireplace, though the central air and heat will certainly keep you comfortable.  Cable TV and wireless internet will keep you connected to the outside world.
